Haughton Green are proud to announce that for the second year running, Irwell Valley have won awards for the North West in Bloom. Awards will be presented at Southport Theatre & Convention Centre Southport on 20th October 2010.

Tim Loughton, Minister for Children & Families paid a return visit to Irwell Valley last Thursday (July 8) for an update on Gold Service. The MP for East Worthing and Shoreham last came to Irwell Valley in 2001, when he was Shadow Minister responsible for urban regeneration and housing.

Two reports in the last two weeks on the subject of neighbours have arrived at opposite conclusions: one says that neighbourliness is on the up and that on average we can all name six neighbours by name. The other says it’s definitely on the way out with twice as many people as thirty years ago saying they would ‘never’ call on their next door neighbour.

The Golden Foundation has won one of the most prestigious accolades to be awarded in the charity sector collecting the Grantmaking Award at last night’s Charity Awards 2010. Launched in 2009 as a joint collaboration between Irwell Valley and Community Foundation for Greater Manchester, the Golden Foundation is a community investment programme for local individuals and communities.

Irwell Valley has added a new customer service product for residents with the launch of their own tv channel – IV TV. The service is especially great news for Irwell Valley residents without Internet access and is available on the Looking Local TV channel, through Sky, Virgin, Freeview (Autumn 2010), Nintendo Wii and mobile phones.

A moving tribute was paid at last night’s TPAS Connecting People Awards Ceremony to resident champion, Sean Garlick, who died last December. Sean, who was nominated for an award, was an active resident in his local community of Haughton Green and worked closely with Irwell Valley when the Housing Association took over management of the Estate from Manchester City Council in 2005.

Now, 13 year old Cameron is enjoying time in the media spotlight on Radio Manchester after taking part in a competition to design out crime in trouble spots in Salford.
