Breightmet

Breightmet is just 2 1⁄2 miles east of Bolton’s town centre and approximately 12 miles from Manchester.

Leisure
Breightmet is home to Seven Acres Country Park and Bradshaw Brook, a local nature reserve and popular with people walking dogs, taking exercise, observing nature and enjoying the surroundings. There are several other parks in the town - Leverhulme, Queen's, Moss Bank, Smithills, Moses Gate, Lever and The Jumbles.

Leverhulme Park is the largest park area within Bolton with football fields, 5-a-side football pitches, and a running and athletics ground as well as nature walks and picnic areas.

Withins School on Newby Rd in Breightmet also sites a community leisure and sports centre and a youth centre.

Bolton Arena is open to and fully equipped for national and international sporting events and offers a wide range of facilities including tennis courts, athletics track, health and fitness suite, full sized Association Football pitch, sports education theatre, conference and catering facilities and a dance studio.

Bolton Excel includes a fitness suite with cardio and weights equipment, a multi-purpose sports hall, squash courts and gymnasium.
Shopping
The main shopping area within Breightmet is along Bury Road (A58)

Bolton has two separate market halls. The Market Place and Bolton Market which runs a flea market every Sunday.

Crompton Place and St. Andrews Place malls carry the usual high street brand names.

There are plenty of 24hr supermarkets and national chains just south out of the town centre.

Middlebrook Leisure & Retail Park (jn6 M61) is probably one of the largest retail parks in the Northwest.

WHAT’S ON
Across the road from the Central Library, Art Gallery and Museum in Bolton town centre is the Octagon Theatre.

A little to the north is the Albert Halls and the long established Bolton Little Theatre is close to the main market.

The stately homes of Smithills Hall, Turton Tower and Hall i' th' Wood can be found on the northern edge of town.

Bolton Festival, a ten-day affair in late August, The Beer Festival and Asian Mela are annual crowd pullers.

Public Transport
Bolton Community Transport is a charity that provides minibus transport for older people, disabled people, and anyone who has difficulty using public transport. All their minibuses have wheelchair lifts and they provide a door-to-door service.

Ring and Ride is a door-to-door service for people of all ages who find it difficult to use ordinary public transport, provided by Greater Manchester Public Transport Executive.

There is a large bus station behind the Town Hall serving all points of the compass and a further bus interchange at the railway station at the town centre's southern edge.
