Blackley is about two and a half miles north of the city centre of Manchester, on the the east side of Rochdale Road which is a major route from the Manchester to the north and the M60 motorway.

Boggart Hole Clough is one of Manchester's largest parks, with bowls, fishing, boating, football pitches, playground, running track, multicourts and woodland walks. There's a smaller park and playground at Conran Street. There is also a Sure Start facilities for families with young children as well as a leisure and fitness centre, with a modern swimming pool, fitness suite and dance studio.

The North City Centre complex has a large ASDA store as well as a variety of smaller shops and indoor market and a unique covered outdoor market.

The local primary schools are Holy Trinity C of E School on Capstan Street, Moston Lane Community school, and Mount Carmel Catholic School on Wilson Street (across Rochdale Road).

Older children either go to North Manchester High School for Boys on Charlestown Road, Charlestown, or Manchester Community School for Girls on Brookside Road in neighbouring Moston.

There's a day nursery at Joseph Lister House on Rochdale Road and an Adult and Toddler group in Water Street, Harpurhey.

The nearest adult education centres are at the Abraham Moss centre in Crumpsall

The nearest library is on Moston Lane in Moston.
