Our aim, wherever possible, is to meet the requirements of our residents and members of their family who are or may become disabled. Irwell Valley can carry out necessary adaptations to a property or help a resident move to accommodation that better suits their needs. Resources for these adaptations are limited, however we will do everything possible to ensure residents are safe and happy in their home. In addition, we will follow our duties as set out in the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
Applying for an aid or adaptation
To request an aid or adaptation for your home, contact your Neighbourhood Officer or speak to our Property Investment Administrator on 0161 610 4614.
They will then ask you to supply a written report from an occupational therapist, which you can get via your GP. Once we have received the report and your application, your case will be put to the disabled adaptation panel.
The application process
Applications are prioritised in date order from when the request was first made and will only be considered if accompanied by an occupational therapist’s report.
If a request requires a major adaptation, such as a stair lift or low-level access shower, the panel will discuss more suitable accommodation with the resident.
This process will take between three to six months, but depends on whether funding is currently available from your local authority. Minor adaptations, such as grab rails or bath seats, normally take three months.
If you are unhappy with any part of the aids and adaptations process, you can make a complaint using our comments, compliments and complaints procedure.
50+ schemes and supported housing
Irwell Valley has several 50+ and supported housing schemes, which allow residents to live independently while having additional care and support on hand if required.
