At times you may be disturbed by your neighbours, or you may disturb your own neighbours inadvertently.
Please be aware of the following:
- If you are having a party tell you neighbours in advance
- Position your fridge, freezer or hi-fi speakers away from shared walls
- Try to use your washing machine or vacuum cleaner during the day
- If you play a musical instrument, do not practise early in the morning or late at night
- Try not to make excessive noise between the hours of 7pm and 8am on weekdays and before 10am or after 5pm on a Sunday.
It is always best to try to resolve any issues direct and with a friendly approach. If your neighbour is also a shared owner or leaseholder we may be able to assist you, as causing a nuisance to other neighbours can be a breach of tenancy.
If you experience any nuisance from your neighbours, contact your Sales & Leasehold Officer for advice.
If you live in a flat you need to be tolerant of day-to-day sounds and actions, which are sometimes unavoidable. To ensure a pleasant living environment for all residents, please close communal doors quietly and be conscious of noise when walking on wooden floors.
Harassment
If you are the victim of harassment you will need to contact the Police and also obtain independent legal advice. Your lease will not offer you specific protection, but we will advise of relevant agencies that may be able to assist you.
