Looks Familiar?
Yes, that’s DIY SOS front man Nick Knowles in his familiar purple shirt - with Irwell Valley contractors, JC Construction.
JC Construction joined BBC’s DIY SOS team and other building contractors to help transform a Liverpool youth centre - and the renovation was filmed for a one-off special for the BBC’s annual Children In Need appeal.
Joiners, electricians and plasterers from the company, which has offices in Manchester and Liverpool, provided their services for free to improve the facilities at the Norris Green Youth Centre in Liverpool.
The work was completed in 10 days in September and is set to be the Appeal’s biggest Big Build challenge so far,
Nick said:
“We are trying to give people like Glenn [Campbell, senior youth worker] the tools which he needs to rescue this generation of young people. If we can give teenagers an opportunity and a sense of empowerment, it will change their life forever.”
Irwell Valley appointed JC Construction as their repairs and maintenance contractor in July 2011.
Sue Norton, a Director at JC Construction said the Big Build was a great experience.
“It was terrifically exciting and rewarding. Everyone was pulling together with real community spirit and to complete the work on time so that we could hand over a facility to the local youngsters which they are proud of and can enjoy”
The show, DIY SOS: The Big Build will launch the Children In Need fundraising week.
Footage from the Norris Green project will also be played during the Children In Need show on November 18. It is hoped DIY SOS viewers will donate £1m to this year’s appeal.
