IVHA showed its support for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender individuals and communities by flying the rainbow flag on May 17 2011 in all its offices receptions to celebrate International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO).
IDAHO is a time to celebrate, show recognition of and support the contribution of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGB&T) individuals and communities. In 2010, over 200 flags flew across Greater Manchester, with many more flying in other areas across the UK. In 2010 places flying the flag included local authorities, NHS trusts and buildings, public libraries, LGB&T organisations, colleges, universities, police buildings, fire stations, train stations, parks, leisure centres, prisons and schools to name just a few.
Our commitment to the promotion and advancement of equality of opportunity for everyone is much more than a legal requirement. We view it as our fulfilment of our moral obligation to the communities we serve and as such we have amended our working practices to reflect the Trangender equality strand.
IVHA has worked with Trans Forum, a transgender group in Manchester, to gain a better understanding of the needs of our transgender customers and to develop a programme of transgender training for Board members, all colleagues and the main contractors. This training has now been completed.
