Tenants’ Awards Ceremony Pays Tribute To Resident Champion

A moving tribute was paid at last night’s TPAS Connecting People Awards Ceremony to resident champion, Sean Garlick, who died last December.

Sean, who was nominated for an award, was an active resident in his local community of Haughton Green and worked closely with Irwell Valley when the Housing Association took over management of the Estate from Manchester City Council in 2005.

A popular and knowledgeable gentleman, Sean was the natural choice when he was elected Vice Chair of Irwell Valley's Residents Committee. He was also Vice Chair of Haughton Green's Estate Committee and a member of the Denton South Partnership, working alongside Councillors, Residents, Police and Senior Executives from other service providers.

Despite serious ill health, Sean tirelessly worked on behalf of local residents and was instrumental in creating the Denton South Partnership 'Cope of Conduct' and Irwell Valley's successful Customer Involvement Statement 'Keeping our Ear to the Ground'.

Maria Garnett, Irwell Valley’s Customer Involvement Officer said:

“Sean was involved from the start of the transformation of Haughton Green and we miss him tremendously, but his personal and energetic involvement despite his health problems has ensured a sustainable legacy not only in Haughton Green but in all the Irwell Valley neighbourhoods.

We were all moved that Sean was so generously acknowledged at the Awards Ceremony for his hard work and achievements”

Sean is survived by wife Fran, daughter Kirsty, mother Shirley and brothers Alan and Terry.
