The New Year arctic weather may have brought chaos, but it’s also brought out the best in Irwell Valley colleagues and residents.
With temperatures plummeting in some areas to -17C and treacherous road conditions, Irwell Valley closed its head office for two days but colleagues worked from home to ensure we respond to emergency calls and other priority services
Residents have been kept informed on a daily basis via the Irwell Valley website with an up-to-date weather watch, emergency numbers, advice on how to keep warm in the cold spell and claim cold weather payments –and hot tips for those frozen pipes.
Good Neighbour stories during the worst winter conditions in the region for over 30 years are reaching our offices - a Haughton Green resident looking after a 94yr old neighbour and in Salford, residents who have been cooking meals for a housebound neighbour.
Irwell Valley colleagues have been doing their bit too – telephoning and visiting elderly and vulnerable residents, collecting prescriptions and essential shopping.
Irwell Valley’s CEO Tom Manion said:
“The adverse weather conditions have proved to be an extremely challenging start to the New Year. Colleagues and our out of hours emergency agencies have done their absolute best to ensure we meet priority services. Neighbours have been fantastic looking out for each other - so a big thank you to everyone.”
All offices are now open as usual, but while the bad weather persists, we’ll be continuing to check on anyone at risk due to the current circumstances. Keep an eye on the home page of our website for the latest information.
