Teenager Haydn McCullen is looking forward to a round of golf tomorrow (Wednesday October 7), especially when it’s being filmed - and his caddie is a TV Sports Presenter.
At the age of just 13, Haydn who lives on the Sale West Estates, is a golf star in the making with a cabinet of trophies to prove it. A team player for Cheshire U14, Haydn has represented the county at international level, picked up a score of titles since he first started playing at the age of 5 and this year became the youngest winner of the Mersey Junior Championships at 12 years old.
But success comes at a price especially in the world of golf, and without the help of Irwell Valley, Haydn’s golf career would have barely ‘teed off’ – and it’s all because of Irwell Valleys reward and loyalty scheme Gold Service.
Haydn’s parents are members of Gold Service, which entitles them to a range of benefits, including an educational and training grant. Mother, Deborah, successfully applied to help with coaching, equipment and travel to tournaments.
With funding coming to an end after 3 years, the McCullens are looking for sponsorship for their young golf prodigy.
“We just could not have got this far without Irwell Valley” says Deborah. “Gold Service is about helping people to develop their potential and Haydn’s a shining example of that promise”
When Granada Reports heard about Haydn’s talents, Sports Presenter Mike Hall – who’s also picked up numerous awards for his sports coverage - couldn’t resist catching up with the youngster for some tips.
All will be revealed when the feature is broadcast on Granada Reports later in the week.
