Energy Efficiency

General Advice

  • Try using energy saving lightbulbs - they are more efficient than normal lightbulbs, saving both money & energy
  • Turn off appliances at the mains when not in use, it is safer and it saves money
 Washing Machines and Tumble Dryers
  • Always wash a full load and if you can't, use a half load or economy programme if your machine has one
  • Always use the low temperature programme
  • Do not put really wet clothes into a tumble dryer, wring them out our spin dry them first. It is much faster and it will save energy, therefore saving you money
Fridges
  • Do not leave the door open for longer than necessary
  • Defrost your fridge regularly to keep it running efficiently and cheap. If it tends to frost up quickly, check the door seal
  • If you have to put your fridge next to a cooker or boiler, leave a good gap between them
