Irwell Valley "eye catching building" receives RICS accolade

Irwell Valley's Richmond Hill development was amongst the region's top building projects recognised at athe Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors 2009 property 'Oscars' held on May 8 at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Short listed earlier this year alongside over 40 finalists drawn from across the North West, Richmond Hill  - a development of 57 affordable apartments - was singled out at the ceremony for a Highly Commended Award in the residential category.

The judges said:

"This development has successfully utilised a narrow site resulting in the creation of an eye-catching building.  The building has been well designed incorporating a sense of movement flowing throughout the new build section created by the use of meandering curves within the structure.  This project has also effectively incorporated an existing pub structure and this adds a unique feature to the development.  In essence, a modern contemporary design complemented by a piece of historic Salford belnded to create a gateway development for the area."

RICS chairman of the judging panel Andrew Kellaway added:

"The Awards symbolise excellence in the North West property and construction sector and provide an invaluable opportunity for the region to celebrate and showcase its exceptional projects.  There is some fantastic work being done which deserves to be championed and celebrated."

Designed by Gordon Snape at DAC Architects and built by Mansell Construction, richmond Hill is another triumph for Irwell valley, which has several award winning schemes in its development portfolio including  Chorlton Park, which has won top awards from the Housing Corporation and the Ruoyal Institute of British Architects.
