Single, groundbreaking Charter pledges cleaner, safer, greener neighbourhoods
Irwell Valley, Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council, Trafford Housing Trust and Greater Manchester Police in conjunction with Keep Britain Tidy and other service providers in the Sale West and Ashton Partnership Area (SWAP), have signed up to a unique agreement that will see an improvement in services for the local community and further measures to clamp down on anti-social behaviour.
SWAP was established to promote the rights of residents to influence and get involved in issues concerning their neighbourhood. Top of the list include domestic violence, crime prevention, youth and community engagement, noise nuisance, mis-use of public space, street lighting and property and highway maintenance.
the 20 page charter - developed through intensive consultation with people living in the area- sets out the right, responsibilities and expectations between residents, social landlords and service providerstowards creating a clean, safe and green neighbourhood and includes a pledge signed by all partner agencies.
Commenting on its significance Ralph Rudden, Chair of Sale West and Ashton Partnership said:
"This Charter, commissioned by Sale West and Ashton Partnership epitomises partnership working and puts the communnity at the heart of decision making. I believe this is the first step in creating a successful partnership for the Sale West and Ashton area"
Michael Redford, Irwell Valley's Deputy Managing Director for Neighbourhoods added:
"Our aim in producing this Charter is to provide clarity regarding the roles, duties and obligations of all who live and work within the partnership area including residents. The partnership is committed to working together to improve the quality of life for all within the partnership areand to making local services better and more accessible. We believe that this Charter will help residents work together with us to achieve our vision."
